Drummer-podcasts (English)

When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know; if you listen, you may still learn something new.

Dalai Lama

.

God & the world listens to podcast! So of course a drummer too.

.

Nothing is better than hearing résumés, experiences and tips from other drummers. Admittedly, you also experience frustration! I experienced frustration when the question came up: “When did you start playing drums?” Most professional drummers started as a child. Then why should I continue at all? Me, who only started at the age of 48 !? Meanwhile I ignore my age and this question anyway! Podcasts are a nice change when driving, chilling out or doing housework. They made me realize that we are all looking. In search of experiencing yourself, lamenting yourself, but also challenging yourself. Everyone has suffered defeats, had special opportunities, or at least made an important decision. Podcasts are a bit like support groups. They show that others have had similar or worse experiences, which I find very helpful for my own development, because the consolation is also motivating.

Of course there is already an oversupply with podcasts! I like to hear podcasts from drummers that I’ve just researched myself because I liked their play. In the podcast itself, other drummers or teachers are often mentioned, whose curriculum vitae I then hear in another podcast. Sometimes I just press my favorite number or close my eyes when making a selection! And I tell you, I’ve experienced the best surprises and broadened horizons!

.

Chance goes its way, the intention never gets past!

not to be researched clearly, but my motto in life!

.

I find it difficult to recommend a “best of” because your personal preference may not be met at all. I’m personally interested in gospel players and R&B drummers, for example. While you might be more into rock or metal. Or you’re just building the set while I’m on the recording topic.

As is well known, the journey is the goal, so enjoy your sideline with a “drummer chat” on the side, listen for inspiration, find out tips & discover the personalities in the drummer scene behind names!

What drummer podcasts are there? What awaits you?

Personally, I started with DrumGAB, the Seamus Eyely podcast. He has a very nice voice and is easy to understand for us Germans. I think it was the very first podcast about drummers. By the way, ‘gab’ means ‘chat’ and he is really good at it: informal, well-researched and entertaining. People laugh a lot, especially at themselves! In the meantime he has been integrated into the American institution “Drumeo” as a podcaster. Thank god not replaced or superseded! He is unique in my ears & certainly already a walking drummer lexicon after so many podcasts that he has made! And… The intro is so awesome!! (Attention, it doesn’t always start at the beginning, which I think is so cool too)

Although I’m a big fan of his, I’ll suggest a few other podcasts here, because tastes are different and so are needs. And if I’m flashed again from a podcast series, it will of course be here!

Drumeo Podcast

Drumeo is the most well-known online drum school and 15 years of development and experience will not be able to catch up with everyone right away. Well-known drummers offer video lessons here. Every drummer, whether beginner or advanced, will find everything that the drummer’s heart desires (if he knows what he wants) and, as already written above, with the legendary Seamus, a podcast. Jared Falk is the founder and CEO of Drumeo. I have linked a podcast here to his story, which in short is “From the goose seller to the CEO of the Internet music school giant”. You know his face on YouTube from the weekly shows with his colleague Dave Atkinson. He now also moderates a podcast himself. So there is DrumeoGAB & Drumeo Podcast.

I HAVE JUST LISTENED AGAIN FOR A LONG TIME, not to make a recommendation in this podcast series and contrary to the statement made above, I’m going to do so now! Another example for:

Either you live or you are consistent

Erich Kästner

.

To get started, listen to the episode with Patch Mahoney! There is everything there that can be said! From smaltalk to cell phone use, Instagram hype, family life, perfectionism and the career ladder from studying medicine to studying drums! Easy, funny and with really good life & drummer hacks!

.

Modern drummer podcast

“Modern drummer” is a trade journal for drummers that appears in the USA. In addition to reports from the drummer scene, there will also be reports on new products and of course they have a podcast, which is moderated personally by the CEO of the magazine, David Frangioni. Maybe you should listen to Thomas Lang’s podcast here, because you just have to know him. As an emigrated Austrian, he is now settled in the USA. His camps are always very hyped, but his game is legendary. I noticed him because he plays three pedals left and right !!! Even crazier than me, that calmed me down 😉

It took a long time, from now on there are also German-language podcasts! Of course you need to understand German. So if so, look for the German Version/Side
